This book is a tribute to Taylor, but she is not involved in its creation.
The winner of the cover contest is Shanna Canarini, who submitted this cover design:
Congratulations, Shanna CanarinI!
The Swifties at Simon & Schuster are thrilled to announce the results of the title, cover, and honorary author contests.
Shanna Canarini, 23, grew up in Lowell, Indiana, and graduated from the American Academy of Art in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree specializing in graphic design. Ms. Canarini became a fan of Taylor Swift’s music in 2006 when she heard “Tim McGraw” on the radio for the first time. In 2007, she attended her first concert, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, specifically in order to see Swift, who was opening for Brad Paisley. Since then Canarini has seen Swift in concert twelve times, and she got to meet the artist at the 2010 CMA Festival. In 2012, Canarini got a tattoo of the lyrics to “Red”—“faster than the wind” and “passionate as sin”—on the arches of her feet in the typeface that was used on the Speak Now album. “I always knew I wanted to be an artist,” Canarini says, “but Taylor was the one who influenced my decision to become a graphic designer. My biggest dream would be getting to work with her to design tour merchandise, album art, or promotional material.” Commenting on her winning cover design for Taylor Swift: This Is Our Song, Canarini says, “I wanted to capture as much as I possibly could from each era, pulling from everything Taylor’s put out there for us and really showcasing each era as a sort of puzzle piece to the much larger picture that is not only Taylor but the last ten years we as fans have spent together with her.” Canarini’s website can be found here and she may be congratulated on Twitter @scanarini.
The winner of the title contest is Tenay Barker, who submitted the perfect title for the book:
Taylor Swift: This Is Our Song
Congratulations, Tenay Barker!
A native of Buda, Texas, Ms. Barker is currently a freshman at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She is studying computer science and hopes to be as great a role model as Taylor is someday. “I have always been a fan of Taylor Swift,” Barker says. “My title tries to express the way that Taylor and her fans have grown as one over the course of her incredible journey. She has been so dedicated to us, and we have been so dedicated to her, and I am so ecstatic that we can to do something for her tenth anniversary by creating this book.” Tenay may be congratulated on Twitter at @TenayBarker.
The winner of the honorary author contest is Tyler Conroy, who submitted the following video:
Congratulations, Tyler Conroy!
Tyler Conroy, twenty-three, was born and raised in Conway, Massachusetts. A 2014 graduate of Iona College, where he directed and starred in the first ever Taylor Swift musical, Mr. Conroy has attended nineteen Taylor Swift shows and personally met Swift three times. At one meeting in 2013, he asked Swift to write the word fearless in her handwriting and he later got it tattooed onto his foot. “I am so excited to be selected as the honorary author,” says Conroy. “I love Swifties, they’re the most supportive and caring people in the world, and I’m honored to be able to represent them and everything it means to be a Swiftie. I can’t wait to meet so many new people and begin this journey to show just how impactful Taylor Swift’s career has been not just in the music industry but in the lives of her fans. She made being different cool and for someone who’s always seen myself as different, she’s given me a reason to stay fearless.” Tyler may be congratulated on Twitter at @tyvid5.
But guess what? The videos that were submitted were so amazing that the task of choosing just one winner was agonizing. So, in addition to naming Tyler as the honorary author, over the coming weeks Simon & Schuster will invite a number of additional fans who submitted compelling videos to become advisors and ambassadors for the book. If they choose to participate, these fans will be paid $500 each and named in the book in exchange for completing a handful of editorial tasks that we assign and helping to spread the word about the book generally.
Congratulations to all, and thanks to everyone who entered the contests. Each and every entry was amazing and inspiring.
